DVideography Wins Battle of the Wedding Editing Styles at WEVA Expo 2006

Posted by Mark Briody, Weddings of the Rockies

I attented the Editing Challenge. I thought the first 3 edits were all outstanding. If I was the client, I'd be happy with any of them. Clip #4 came up and my first note was 'WOW!!!'. The emotional level was off the charts on this edit. The attention to detail on this edit was something I had never seen in a wedding video. The music choice, transitions, pace, etc were all incredible. I told the guy next to me 'This may be the best editor I've ever seen'. And of course that edit won the competition. Who did it? Dave Williams of DVideography.

"I would like to thank Kristopher, Jordan, and Gary for helping me edit this piece. It truly was a team effort."

Mini Workshop for CT PVA

Dear Dave,

Just want to thank you again for your excellent presentation to the Connecticut PVA ‘s August Meeting last night. Your demo and presentation skills were very good. And another special thank you for “Smooth Moves”, another quality presentation that you produced. I truly appreciate it.

Hi Dave,

Thanks for coming to our meeting in CT on August 15, 2006

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to come and share your expertise with the Glidecam and some of your marketing Ideas. (The short form edit)

I have a Glidecam I bought several years ago and used for a couple of weddings and then put it away. I will be getting it back out. Thanks for producing Smooth Moves.

You are an excellent videographer and editor but even more you are an excellent business and marketing person and that's what it takes to succeed, you can have the greatest product in the world but if you don't know how to sell it you will always be poor. You definately have what it takes. Thanks for sharing.

Sincerely,

Tom Hickman

The GPVA Unites to Enter WEVA Contest

Attendees included GPVA members Brooke Rudnick, Natalie Neal, Rob Neal, Jordan Oplinger, Glen Elliott, Darrel Aubert, and myself. The pizza, cheesesteaks, chips and soft drinks (it takes longer to edit drunk) consumed helped us all get through a long night. Editing began at 8 PM and ended at 4 AM the next morning.

I wanted the edit to be cozy and fun. So we set up my great room with two screens; a plasma screen brought by Glen and my projector. The arrangement made it easy for everyone to have a part in the edit decisions. Unfortunately, I cannot talk about the concept, the number of shots, or even who donated assets to the project as we must remain anonymous until the winners are announced this coming Tuesday.

It was truly a memorable night for everyone involved. Serious professionals coming together with one goal. Well, OK - there is a $1000 prize for the winning association, and then there's the bragging rights.

So we are all crossing our fingers for Tuesday night. Wish us luck!

Philadelphia Weddings, New York Weddings, and Destination Weddings

As destination weddings become more popular, so do Destination Wedding Videos. We are often asked if we take our production crew outside of the Philadelphia and New York area. The answer is "yes"! We've shot Bahama Weddings, Bermuda Weddings, and in several states including California, Las Vegas, and Washington, DC.

Of course, it's a good idea to plan around hurricane season. Here's a helpful article on What You Need to Know Before You Go.

Minimally, a 2-person crew can handle the production of a destination wedding video. Here's an example of a production we showed in the Bahamas at the reception:
