Photo Video Fusion is Heating Up

Saturday, March 21, 2009

In both the photo and video worlds right now, there is a buzz about "Fusion", a term coined by the Bebbs at bebb studios. A new development was just released late last year by Canon and Nikon; the ability to shoot HD video with a professional photography camera.

These cameras have large sensors, offering new low light capabilities and a professional look that videographers could not obtain without using large video cameras on their shoulders. This also meant that two professional tools were now available in the same piece of gear.

Blending HD cinematography and digital still photography is nothing new (Faith West and I delivered this photo video fusion project last summer). But I have to tell you, after seeing what is available with these new cameras, I can't see doing another one without them.

ChrishanukkahWe got our new Canon cameras in December and I played with one at home and then began shooting events with wonderful results. Two benefits jumped out at me. We can shoot in VERY low light - I'm talking candle light, people. While we have always been unobtrusive, this makes us even more 'fly on the wall'. The second benefit is to have the look and feel in our films that professional photographers deliver in high-resolution images. Imagine those great photographs coming to life.

I've connected with a bunch of photographers and videographers I know and respect, and one thing is clear, the wheels are spinning.

Some present Photo Video Fusion as an artistic way of blending high resolution digital photos and HD video. Others see it as a way to sell both services under one roof with all of the advantages that offers. There is so much interest in this idea, there are now workshops like the ones Curt Apanovich and Robert Evans of PhotoFusionTour are presenting.

Setting up a 5D Mark II on a Glidecam 4000HDWe were commissioned by LensRentals.com to create some webisodes on their site, teaching professional photographers and videographers what is now available and how to use it. For those not willing to invest in new gear, they give the pros a chance to rent the latest and greatest gear on a per job basis before investing in new gear.

Our take on photo video fusion will begin to unfold as we present more of our finished projects here. It has been an interesting few months as we've had the opportunity in Vegas to shoot a music video, a desert photo shoot, help WaxWorks Photo present at their booth, create a Same Day Edit for the Pay It Forward group, and even shoot Jackie Bayne's wedding officiated by The King.

Over the next few weeks, I'll also present real interviews with the talented photographers and cinematographers who have been involved with us locally here in Philadelphia. You'll watch discussions on what new technology can now deliver in the hands of talented artists. You'll be able to view HD examples of productions delivered to clients with commentary from each artist.

Elizabeth and Judd at St. Augustine's and The Union League

Friday, January 16, 2009

Good morning, Dave.

Thank you for the wonderful wedding video. Elizabeth and Judd were up from D.C. on Christmas Day and we were all so excited to watch it that we decided to postpone Christmas Dinner until the next day and it was well worth it! Ward and I as well as Catherine, Edward and Conor laughed, cried, pondered and overall enjoyed seeing this precious keepsake. Needless to say, Elizabeth and Judd took their copy of the video back to D.C.

Thanks, Dave.

Jonathan and Vandrea's Same Day Edit at the Ballroom at the Ben

Monday, December 15, 2008

Vandrea and Jonathan hired us to produce their Same Day Edit. We shot, edited, displayed and delivered this production that evening.

Although we've been producing the Same Day Edit for years as an add-on to full-length productions, the Same Day Edit ONLY has become more popular because it is more affordable than a full-length production.

When a client orders the Same Day Edit only, they also receive all of the raw footage on DVDs shortly after the wedding. Clients also have the option of having the Same Day Edit DVDs duplicated the night of the reception and handed out as favors.

Same Day Edits start at $3500. For more information, contact us.

The Magic of Video
November 7, 2008 by tamarar82
When Carter and I first met Heather Fowler, we weren’t planning on hiring a videographer. We felt that professional photos would be all that we needed to preserve our wedding day memories. Plus, we wanted to budget our money towards really great photography, so we didn’t think we it was reasonable to spend more money on videography.
I think one of the most unique, most unforgettable, and most profound parts of our day was our same day edit . . . I had to try hard not to bawl during the showing of the Same Day Edit. Carter and I didn’t see it until the day of the wedding, so it was extremely emotional. (Photo by Heather Fowler)
Heather asked us if we were considering videography and explained to us that video could complement photography very nicely, and vice versa. She shared a few videographers’ web sites with us, and we delved into the web sites when we got home. Then, we met with a few of our favorites, and DVideography blew us away. Suddenly, videography wasn’t a frivolous extra, but a necessity. [read more]

Denise and Chris' Same Day Edit at The Merion

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Before the wedding, Denise and Chris 'leaked' this "Coming Soon" trailer to their guests:

Coming Soon: Same Day Edit from Dave Williams on Vimeo.
Dave,

DVideography was the very first vendor we booked, even before our church and our reception hall!! We wanted to make sure that we booked YOU before we had anything else!!! And we are so so thankful we did!!!

We watch our love story and same day edit DAILY. NO JOKE. We absolutely love it!! We get so many amazing compliments from the people that were at our wedding and requests to email the link out again so they can also watch it over and over again!

You and your team are FABULOUS! You are professional, kind, and nothing short of absolutely amazing! We literally can not wait the recommended time to get our full length video back! We are going to have a huge party at the house to show it and everyone can not even begin to imagine how you will even top what was shown at the wedding, but we know you will!!

Thank you so much for all your hard work and to Jordan and everyone else who I don't know by name! You captured so much in so little and we are so thankful for the memories that we will have for a lifetime!! YOU ARE THE BEST!

Same Day Edit at The Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia

Sunday, September 07, 2008

Same Day Edits truly excite us as much as they excite our clients. Here's what the guests at the Crystal Tea Room watched during the main course on Friday night. Thanks to my editor, Jordan, for pulling through once again.
Hi Dave,

Well, I should be on my honeymoon right now, but it got cancelled…so I wanted to take this time to thank you.

I know that my father was beyond impressed and already called you regarding that.

I believe the blog of my same day edit has now probably been viewed by around 500 people at this point. You just really can’t imagine all the feedback we’ve received. Everyone has been so excited about the same day edit and I’m SO glad we decided to go with it. It surpassed all my expectations. I think I might’ve cried through the entire thing, but it’s all a blur so I’m not sure. I’ve watched it a million times and each and every time I’m more impressed.

Thanks again for everything. Your relaxing personality helped me keep my cool during the stressful times of the day! I just really can’t express my gratitude for everything. We really can’t wait to see the finished product…but until then- we will just continue to watch the same day edit over and over again!!!!

Katie and Mike at Congress Hall in Cape May, NJ

Wednesday, August 27, 2008

Listen to Mom's Voicemail
Dave,

I am so happy to hear from you! We just got back from our honeymoon about 3 days ago, and you were first on my list of people to contact. Before telling you how much we are in awe of your amazing video, I will take this opportunity to thank you for all of your hard work on our wedding day. I truly loved having you as a part of our day - you were energetic, fun and professional, and we were so lucky to have you! I still can't believe how truly blessed we are.

Now, I must tell you how blown away we both are by this video- it is truly the most incredible thing we've ever seen! It's not like every other wedding tape- it is different and unique, and really captures the whole spirit of the day, and us. I hope you enjoyed the night- it is somewhat of a blur for me, as it all went by so quickly. It's so amazing to see all of the things that I missed, as well as re-live the points I remember. You did an exceptional job, and we thank you!! If we ever need a videographer in the future, we have your number. Thank you again Dave for everything- we are forever grateful. Hope you are well, and I hope to hear from you soon!

Best,
Katie and Mike

Dave, we really love the video of Katie and Mike's wedding - such a huge departure from every other wedding video we've ever seen, and certainly head and shoulders over every other one we looked at when we were trying to decide who to go with for the wedding. We're so happy that we chose DVideography - the video was a joy to watch, and I'm sure we will be watching it over and over again. I know Katie and Mike are thrilled also - as are Mike's parents, who received the third video and who cannot get over how beautiful your work is.

Thanks for capturing the spirit of the day, Dave - you're the best.

Behind the Scenes: Liz and Eric prepare for their 11-7-08 Same Day Edit

Friday, August 22, 2008

Today we shot the interviews and the b-roll for Liz and Eric's Same Day Edit, to be shown on November 7, 2008.

We have been producing Same Day Edits for over 5 years. A Same Day Edit includes highlights of the day presented at the reception. Same Day Edits allow us to offer some really exciting options to our clients, including a pre-produced, polished 'Love Story' that personalizes the Same Day Edit and truly allows our couples to tell the story of the beginning of their lives together.

Here's a 'Coming Soon' movie trailer for Liz and Eric's wedding this fall. Enjoy!

Just got the trailer for our wedding video 'same day edit'. OK, I was impressed with the pictures from the day of the shoot. This trailer blew us away. Dave sent the trailer to us at night when Liz was sleeping. I literally woke her up to watch the trailer. We watched it four or five times before being able to close our mouths in pure amazement. What a remarkable job. With this 2 minute video, he has managed to put a smile on not only our faces, but all of our family that have already seen it.

Thanks again, Dave. We're can't wait to see what comes next. Keep up the great work!

Liz and Eric

Wow! What a great day. Liz and I still can't stop talking about the excitement we are feeling for the big day and how this video is going to turn out. Dave and his crew were SO great and helpful in getting the job done. It sure helped that we were treated like royalty from the Jenkinson's Boardwalk staff.

It was truly a day that both Liz and I will remember forever and this was just a photo shoot!

We were told great things about Dave and DVideography, but actions always do speak louder than words and this experience was wonderful.

Thanks Dave and we can't wait to see you at the wedding and how this "Same Day Edit Love Story" turns out.

Liz and Eric

YOU WERE MADE FOR THE MOVIES!

YOU WERE MADE FOR THE MOVIES!
by Sarah DiCicco

The most memorable day of any girl’s life has now become positively unforgettable. For the first time ever, wedding photographer Sarah DiCicco (www.sarahdicicco.com) has made it possible for newlyweds, along with their family and friends, to relive the love, laughter and emotion of their wedding day in the grandest of fashion offering an exclusive photo presentation of their special day on the movie theater big screen.

With the help of Dvideography (www.dvideography.com), DiCicco compiles the wedding day photos, while DVideography does its magic by conducting interviews with the bride and groom and family and friends to seamlessly accompany the images allowing clients to relive the wedding day as if it were happening all over again. The bride and groom take home their wedding photographs after the movie premiere allowing them to experience their wedding day again and again and to pass on their special moments to generations to come. The photo film premiere is exclusively available to DiCicco clients.

Often, wedding photographers present your proofs in a small thumbnail proof book, on CD or with watermarks over your images which are seldom retouched. With Sarah DiCicco, your wedding experience is vastly different with proofs that are final images consisting of up-to 900 to 1200 4 x 6 custom retouched prints displayed in three leather albums. After all of the planning and time that you put into your wedding, the images are what you have to remember your special day.

The photo film premiere is an extraordinary experience for any couple, but it’s an ideal answer for couples whose friends and family weren’t able to attend their destination wedding. The premiere will allow them to experience the couple’s wedding day as if they were guests at the actual wedding.

“I am thrilled to be the first wedding photographer to offer this unprecedented new way to see your wedding day photos,” said wedding photographer, Sarah DiCicco. “This is so much more than simply pictures put to music. This is truly a production worthy of the big screen.”

Erin Elizabeth Conroy of Newtown, PA and Thomas John Welling Jr. of Bronxville, N.Y recently experienced this star treatment. They were married February 2, 2008 at St. Vincent Ferrer in New York City, followed by a reception at Manhattan’s Capitale. On June 1st, the couple were greeted by their names displayed on the marquee at the Anthony Wayne Cinema and poster images of the couple inside the theater lobby. Friends and family were on hand to feel all the emotion of the newlywed’s wedding day all over again.

Dave & Sheryl,

I can't even begin to say how over the top the movie premier was!!! The reason I tell everyone that you are the best because it is true! Your high level of quality and unwavering ability to create a true piece of art is priceless. Thank you for not just taking the time to work with me on this, but also your friendship and your ability to take it a step further! Simply Amazing!

With all of our love, Sarah & Tony

Friday, March 07, 2008

Dave,

Mike and I got the video in the mail yesterday. We got to watch it last night. We LOVED it! You and your staff did an amazing job! We were so excited to watch it. We especially liked how you edited parts of the ceremony, reception..etc. for it not to be too long, but not leave out important details of the day. We felt like we were starring in our own movie! The video will be one of the most memorable reminders of our wedding day. I think we are going to watch it again this weekend! :)

Thanks again for making the trip to Pittsburgh on such a tight schedule. You and your staff's commitment truly showed on that day! Thank you for being a part of our special day and making it one we will never forget!

On the way to Cape May . . .

[Please post a comment]

Hi Guys,

We had a really busy (all fun) weekend, and I finally got time to really watch the movie and give it the time it deserved.

We are just in awe at how awesome you guys are. I don't even think you can classify these as wedding videos the way there is so much thought that goes into it.

I was watching the video thinking "Oh it was pretty cool that I caressed Jenn just then or kissed her at a special moment", but then I remembered.... Dave directed me to do that, and I was just being an obedient groom. But it really is impressive how you have the vision of how it will look in the final video, or to us our cinema masterpiece. We love all the panning and just great shots.

Danielle, you had me and everyone else tearing up.........ok I shed a few tears. Once I finally truly watched it, I felt like I got what you were doing with the different scenes and the way they transitioned from one another. I really loved the tribute to Jenn's mom, just enough to feel it, but then it transitioned into my mom welcoming her as a daughter. Awesome job. I was so attached to that other song, but it was a great call to use this music, it fit perfect.

EVERYONE says oh its like your watching a real movie, not someone's wedding.......which you guys must here all the time.

Just wanted to let you know that we really did notice and appreciate all the work you put into it.

Thank you very much.

Saturday, January 26, 2008

Hi Dave and Sheryl

Thank you so much for the most amazing video we've ever seen. We knew when we hired you for our wedding you would produce nothing less than spectacular. We watched the video last night with my parents in absolute awe and with so much gratitude. We laughed and cried throughout the whole thing and were able to relive the incredible day that was our wedding. Please tell all of your production staff thank you and that we appreciate the hard work and effort that was put into the video. The editing alone was unbelievable. Thank you for fixing our introduction into the ballroom. It sounds a lot better to be married to Matt rather than his brother, Mike and thank you for cutting the Ave Maria part short. I remember standing there thinking, "why are they still playing." You knew exactly how to re-create the evening and make it better and more perfect.

I know that you were still working on it as of yesterday morning and when I received the call from my dad say he was coming home with the video I literally jumped out of my chair at work and yelled, "YES!" After watching the trailer about 1000 times and showing it to all of our friends they've been waiting with anticipation to see the rest of the video. Even my office wants to have a wedding movie lunch break so they can see it. I'm sure I'll be watching the video everyday for at least the next month. It'll definitely become a fixture in my dvd drive.

The out-takes were hilarious and I'm so happy that you put the part with you and me in there. I would certainly want to remember you as a part in my wedding day rather than someone behind the scenes. Even though we've only spoken a few times and spent a couple of hours together I felt an immediate connection as I know my father has as
well. I hope that in years to come we'll stay in touch and you'll be there to capture future events and milestones in our lives.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Same Day Edit - Part 1 - What's all the Fuss?

Tuesday, December 25, 2007

Back in late 2004, I was interviewed for an EventDV article on "The Art of the Wedding-Day Edit". We had a lot of experience already producing Wedding Day Edits (also known as Same Day Edits) and I knew it would take off. Here we are, three years later with new technology, more creative video producers, a real appreciation for this art form, and the Same Day Edit is all the rage.

Now entire lectures are held on the topic each year at conferences hosted by the largest videographer association in the world - the Wedding and Event Videographers Association (WEVA) - and a younger organization, The 4Ever Group. With all of this new interest, I figured I would break it all down for our readers and demystify today's Same Day Edit with several episodes over the coming weeks. Of course, we should start with what a Same Day Edit (SDE) is.

An SDE can be something as simple as a montage of the moments of the day displayed at the cocktail hour or as complex as a mind-blowing short film including pre-produced segments shot and edited days, weeks, or even months before the event. The possibilities are limited only by imagination and the budget. But one thing is certain; a good Same Day Edit can bring real energy to the party. Guests will laugh, cry, and be amazed.

Most videographers have always offered some sort of large screen projection at events. But until the Same Day Edit became popular, what went on those screens was mostly limited to pre-produced segments or a live feed from on-site cameras. But videographers have gotten more creative as technology allows them to work more efficiently.

Editing systems are faster, smaller, and lighter, and the gear is easy to set up and tear down. Cameras are now equipped with hard drives or solid state media (like the memory card in your point and shoot still camera), doing away with the time-consuming task of capturing taped footage into the computer in real time. This all means that the bottlenecks that used to get in the way of actual editing time are virtually gone, allowing talented editors to create an emotional, high quality production in the time it takes to get from the ceremony to your first course at the reception.

For our first example in this series, let's take a look at Maria and Ron's Same Day Edit:
Maria and Ron
As a dancer her entire life, Maria convinced Ron to take dance lessons with her to prepare for their wedding. In our first meeting, Maria explained that she not only wanted her first dance to be perfect, she wanted her friends and family to see how their lives (and the dance) all came together. We came up with the plan to show their love story to the guests while Maria and Ron ducked out of the room to change into their dance attire. Maria and Ron's Same Day Edit was a customized hybrid of pre-production and day-of coverage that gave the perfect introduction to their first dance. As the video faded to black, the lights on the dance floor brightened just enough to reveal Ron and Maria live. It was magical.

Next time we'll take a look behind the scenes of Same Day Edits. Stay tuned.

Mail Bag: Michelle and Michael. Tarrytown, NY

Thursday, November 22, 2007

Dave,

We just spent the day preparing for Thanksgiving, sat down on the couch with a glass of wine and checked our email to see that our trailer was waiting for us in our inbox! Michelle's parents were here with us and we all watched it ten times already, it was just phenomenal! From the first day we saw your work to the day of our wedding, you and your crew have been top-notch. Especially after driving five hours from a previous wedding to ours the next day, you guys were refreshed, energetic, and so much fun! Now we receive an email at 9:30pm the night before Thanksgiving letting us know our trailer is ready to be viewed, you guys are incredible!

As a professional in the wedding industry myself, I knew I wanted to hire only the best to film our wedding and there was always only one choice, DVideography! It's funny, my clients always say that we capture things that they forgot about or things that they can't even remember happening. It's hard to impress me and exceed my expectations because of my own experience, but wow! You guys were everywhere yet nowhere and captured some incredible footage, most of which flashed by extremely fast on our wedding day! With just our trailer, you guys have proved how valuable a videographer truly is! We can't wait for more! Michelle and I wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving and want to thank you for EVERYTHING!! Please keep in touch.

Warmest Regards,
Michelle and Michael DiChiaro

Mail Bag: Mom's Favorite Part Was The Outtakes

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

September 26, 2007

Dear Dave,

After speaking to your wife last week, I decided to write to tell you how pleased we are with the wedding video. Had the decision to have a video been mine, it would never have happened. I had no desire to have it for posterity. It was very important to our Dave, the groom. We figured it was a good project for him, along with picking the band. He did all the research and decided to go with DVideography. Just as he picked the band because he was impressed with its’ leader, Dave picked another Dave who impressed him, to do the video. We’re so very glad he did!

I have seen the completed video several times now and I cry every time! I can’t believe how much I would have forgotten! Until I saw the video, I was certain I had not seen the cake cutting, but there I am! However, my favorite part is the Outtakes! As you remember, we had some unique challenges! How many wedding videos have unintentional fire trucks! And the footage in the elevator is priceless. The procession from the Sofitel to Davio’s and the bridal party walking through downtown were both events we had not seen and would not have seen if not for video.

The biggest compliment I can give is that you were invisible. Yet you managed to be everywhere and capture everything. To me, that is the sign of a highly skilled, talented videographer. Not once were we aware of you doing your work! You were so unobtrusive that I don’t think I would recognize you!

As you can tell, I am a video convert. I now know that my previous experiences with “wedding video” was based on less professional work. I know several brides-to-be and will be recommending that they have video. Not just any video, but DVideography.

Thanks so much for an incredible finished product and flawless work the day of the wedding. We’ll recommend you to anyone who’ll listen.

Sallie Robinson

Outtakes: Stuck in an Elevator

Tuesday, September 04, 2007

Just to show you that we at DVideography have a sense of humor (and that weddings don't always run perfectly smooth), here's a look at one of our recent Outtakes chapters. Sarah and Dave - the bride and groom - took everything in stride. It was a gorgeous day and a beautiful wedding.

Just remember, when the sign reads "Maximum Capacity: 11", don't fill the elevator with 16.

Reactions on Hidden Camera

Friday, June 22, 2007

Nicole and Brian were so excited to hear we were shipping their DVDs that they asked if they could drive over to pick them up. They wanted to see some of the video right away. Knowing how fun they were, I decided to turn my little consumer palmcorder on them from the corner of the room. Here's their reaction.

Thanks for being such good sports and allowing me to share this Nicole!

Videojournalism Meets HD: HD Wedding Videos

Tuesday, June 19, 2007

I have never been one to 'talk tech' on my website. Nowhere will you find a picture of a video camera, or read about the kind of gear my audio engineers use. But this is different. HD is something everyone is beginning to appreciate.

When we were the first in the Philadelphia area to offer HD wedding video coverage over two years ago, we did not realize how long it would take before affordable Blu-Ray and HD DVD players would be available in Best Buy or Circuit City. It was a gamble I was willing to take.

As a wedding videojournalist, I've always loved the 16x9 (widescreen) format, the colors, and the breathtaking resolution. In the beginning, I delivered HD projects to a few of my corporate clients and began doing Same Day Edits in HiDef. However, with very few options to deliver HD content to consumers, there was little interest in HD among my brides and grooms.

This year it's different. Not only are clients asking for HD videos, we finally have numerous ways to deliver true HD content. We also have a lot of experience shooting and delivering HD weddings, with many completed projects to show prospective clients. "It's like looking through a window", remarked one of my recent clients.

Click on the picture above (a shot of me working hard in the Bridal Suite at the Ritz Carlton Hotel) to see a comparison of the resolutions available today.

Destination Video Australia

Tuesday, May 08, 2007

Last week I lectured in Melbourne, Australia at the PMA Australia 2007 Imaging Technology Expo. My lecture on Thursday covered some of the hottest trends in wedding and event video production and on Friday I held a mini hands-on workshop. Then, I was off to Sydney where I shot a beautiful Jewish wedding in Centennial Park. The reception was at Luna Park, just at the foot of Sydney's Harbor Bridge.

This video is a behind-the-scenes look through the lens of my small palmcorder that I brought along. On my way to Melbourne, I had some time in Los Angeles to visit and have dinner with my friend David Robin of Boulevard Video Productions. The first message on the video is from Dave to an Australian videographer named Dennis Illic.

Next, it was off to Melbourne where I connected with fellow lecturers Chris Chibucos of Furlavision Productions, Natalie Neal of Glass Slipper Productions, Jenny Lehman of Jenny Lehman Film and Video, Eng Tiong Teo of Pilgrim Pictures, Ross Herewini of efilms, and WEVA's director of marketing, John Zale.

And finally, I took a short flight to Sydney for some sight-seeing with my blokes and to shoot a wedding with Dave and Troy of D'nM Video Productions

Mail Bag: Letters from the bride, groom, AND Mom.

Friday, April 06, 2007

From the bride:

Dave,

We went away and just returned. I had to pick them up so that's why there's been a delay. Mom and Madison are out of the country so you'll be hearing from them I'm sure later this week as I'm off to the post office to mail them their copy right after I send this to you.

It's really incredible. Tom, the girls and I watched the video together and we laughed and cried and went crazy. It's so beautiful and the music is perfect. It's so special words can't express our feelings. What a treasure. I'm going to go crazy until Mom and Madison get home to see it. For Tom and I it was like being there for the first time. You're so talented I could go on and on.

Thank you so much again for your creative and hard work. We will let all our friends and family know that they can purchase a copy through you. We'll be in touch.

Angie

From the groom:

Hello Dave, Long time no hear sir….

Well I have to tell you, Angie and I were so excited to hear that the video had been completed, she made me promise that we watch it together, and we just recently watched the video with my 2 daughters since it was my week with the kids….

We are absolutely blown away by the video, it turned out so well, words cannot express how we both feel at the moment. We now know all the details, those things Angela and I had missed while we were caught up in the moment, feels like the day just blew by and we felt we missed so much, the video really brings out the joy, the beauty, and the moments that are etched in our memories for ever.

Thank You so much for your hard work, you and your staff have the gift of talent as the end result is nothing like we expected, it was so much more!
Angela and I want you to know, we are so very grateful that Jo and Madison picked you to do our video, and we Thank You from the bottom of our hearts. This is very special to us, and we will cherish this video for the rest of our lives.

When my daughters decide to wed, I know who to call!

Thank you for everything Dave, you guys are the Best!

Tom Torres

Dave,

We went away and just returned. I had to pick them up so that's why there's been a delay. Mom and Madison are out of the country so you'll be hearing from them I'm sure later this week as I'm off to the post office to mail them their copy right after I send this to you.

Angie

From Mom:

We are flabbergasted by your work. We have shown it to many friends and as they watch they invariably oooh and ahhhh over you! Everyone is blown away by the videography, editing, and music. It looks like a beautiful feature film. Yesterday I showed it to an actress friend of mine who said it sounded as though it had been scripted ... now that's good editing. And to think we don't even remember you being there! It boggles the mind, you are amazing. It has such a natural beautiful seamless flow that captures the day in perfect detail. Your sensitivity shows in every frame. To watch is to be served up our most intimate feelings by a master craftsman who understands the delicate subtleties of his task. The music choices are dead on. They carried us through every turn underscoring the journey in perfect harmony. It was especially wonderful to hear a string version of Beauty and the Beast played under the footage after Jeannne finished the song. Your choice of sound bites over the perfect footage is both thoughtful and beautiful. The rehearsal dinner prayer by my brother-in-law and so many other choices that took real thought and care. There is so much attention to detail that we know will hold even more meaning for us as the years go by. Words are not enough to express our appreciation for such immense care. Thank you, thank you, thank you without end.

In Deepest Gratitude and Respect,

Jo and Madison Galbraith

Mail Bag: Stephanie and Ken's Reaction

Saturday, January 13, 2007

Hi Dave (and Sheryl)

Thank you so much for doing such an amazing job with our wedding video. We barely had it a week and had already watched it more than 20 times. It was great to be able to relive the experience together and to see moments of the day that we didn’t get to experience(Kenny enjoyed watching the girls get ready and I loved seeing everyone come down the aisle while I was waiting outside).

The whole thing was just put together unbelievably in a way that made it fun and engaging to watch – you can see everyone’s emotions, reactions and excitement, and the sound quality is flawless.

We been enjoying sharing the recap with our California friends who couldn’t make it out for the wedding, but our favorite part is definitely the outtakes. We were doubled over with laughter. I don’t know how you caught some of that footage -- you are a master and you captured everyone’s personalities perfectly.

Thanks you again, Dave. It was a pleasure working with you, Sheryl and your crew. We felt confident in your expertise, comfortable with your unobtrusive approach and knew that you had our wishes at the forefront of everything you did. You delivered customer service that exceeded our expectations – especially that Christmas Eve video delivery that made my parent’s year!

We wish you all the best in 2007 and hope our
paths cross on a project in the future.

Best,
Ken & Stephanie Tomei

Anything for the Shot

Thursday, November 16, 2006

Hi Dave,

So I saw you the other week at the ASTRO meeting
zooming around the Accuray booth filming their launch of the 2006 Cyberknife. I was in from CA to attend the meeting with my client, Philips. I wanted to say hello but could tell you were busy. I swear you are EVERYWHERE!

Attached to the left is a shot Heather Fowler took of you strapped to the back of the golf cart. She also has one of you on top of the limo bus -- you go to great lenghts to get your shots! In fact, I saw the one on your blog when you went up in the bucket. So funny.

Anyway, I hope all is well with you and Sheryl. Take care.

Best,
Stephanie

Watch the Movie

Listen to the Parents' Voicemail

This was just one of those magically beautiful weddings. A perfect autumn day in a very colorful New Hope, Pennsylvania.

A little over 70 family and friends helped celebrate Angie and Tom's day. This had to be one of the most loving families we have shot.

It all began at the rehearsal dinner on Friday night at the Stockton Inn. Then the ceremony on Saturday at Thompson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Then off to a gorgeous event at the parent's home and barn, designed by Evantine Design with a delicious presentation catered by Max & Me.

Congratulations 'Gigi' and Tom! :-)

Dave,

Your editing of the video is amazing! It is gorgeous. Anyone viewing it would be amazed.

Your capture of the ceremony is wonderful. The speeches, first dance, and cake cutting are great. We loved the shots you got of people hanging out together at the tables. We LOVED how you came upon our friend Bill telling the story about Amin.

The recap was beautiful. Everyone that has watched it has needed a box of tissues.

Karen

P.S. I thought I’d include some of the reactions we had to the recap…

Oh My Gosh.....This is so beautiful. I am totally speacheless. What a wonderful job they did on this....you too look so happy. I was so caught up in the actual moment that I missed out on the close ups. This is such a neat was to revisit that special day. Thanks for sharing!
That is the most beautiful wedding video I have ever seen. I can't believe I just cried here at my desk! I can only imagine how touched you and Amin are to have something so special. Your kids, God willing, are going to love watch that.
I know I'm preggo and emotional blah, blah, blah but that video left me blubbering like an idiot. I loved it.
This is absolutely fabulous!!! What a great way to remember your special day.
That was the most beautiful video. It was done so well and professionally, like no other wedding video I've seen. Thanks for sharing. Olivia got a kick out of watching it too.

Chuppah-Cam

Friday, October 06, 2006

Hello Dave ---

It's Billy Katz, from the Marshall-Katz wedding on September 3rd. Dave, I am so blown away by the Director’s View Recap of our wedding! I am completely amazed by how many highlights you were able to pack into four-and-a-half minutes --- everyone that has seen it has just raved. I myself have watched it over and over in the two days since we received it, and I get choked up every single time I see it. The voiceovers by the little kids are at once precious and poignant. The editing is seamless, and the whole video builds so beautifully from beginning to end. Even the music is just right!

And we weren't sure how you would work in the Chuppah-cam, but that lone shot of Megan and me embracing just after I smash the glass is so effective and dramatic! We really made the right choice of videographers, that's for sure. Everything about the video is so professional and perfect.

Dave, I can't thank you and your team enough for such attention to detail, and for helping us relive our event in such a joyous presentation. This is truly something we will treasure for years to come.

With Warmest Regards,

--- Billy

Why I Love My Job

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Dave.

All I have to say is that I received our wedding recap a week ago, and I have probably watched it 100 times since! Your ability to take an entire day and night and turn it into the most special 4 minute story of the best day of my life is just absolutely unbelieveable. Every bride will admit how much they wish they could have their wedding day all over again, and every time I watch the recap I truly feel as if it just happened yesterday! You caught every special moment, and our friends and family loved that they could be emailed the link to watch the video as well... I'm getting phone calls every day telling me how they cried watching it! I cant even imagine what the wedding video is going to be like.. if the recap is a preview, I know it will be amazing.

Sincerely,

Shelby and David Kleiman

P.S. here's a picture from our photographer - it is adorable, I love it!

I even wrote a caption: "World's Best Videographer filming World's Most Gorgeous Bride" haha

or....

"I couldn't have worked with a better videographer... thank you for making my wedding day so memorable!"

DVideography Wins Battle of the Wedding Editing Styles at WEVA Expo 2006

Sunday, August 27, 2006

Posted by Mark Briody, Weddings of the Rockies

I attented the Editing Challenge. I thought the first 3 edits were all outstanding. If I was the client, I'd be happy with any of them. Clip #4 came up and my first note was 'WOW!!!'. The emotional level was off the charts on this edit. The attention to detail on this edit was something I had never seen in a wedding video. The music choice, transitions, pace, etc were all incredible. I told the guy next to me 'This may be the best editor I've ever seen'. And of course that edit won the competition. Who did it? Dave Williams of DVideography.

Philadelphia Weddings, New York Weddings, and Destination Weddings

Tuesday, August 08, 2006

As destination weddings become more popular, so do Destination Wedding Videos. We are often asked if we take our production crew outside of the Philadelphia and New York area. The answer is "yes"! We've shot Bahama Weddings, Bermuda Weddings, and in several states including California, Las Vegas, and Washington, DC.

Of course, it's a good idea to plan around hurricane season. Here's a helpful article on What You Need to Know Before You Go.

Minimally, a 2-person crew can handle the production of a destination wedding video. Here's an example of a production we showed in the Bahamas at the reception:

OK, What the heck is a Same Day Edit?

Friday, July 28, 2006

After my last blog about our Same Day Edit at the Crystal Tea Room, several folks wanted to know what a Same Day Edit is. Last year, EventDV magazine published a story about videographers who produce SDEs. Although some technological change have been made in the last year, this behind the scenes look at SDEs is still pretty accurate.

The Art of the Wedding-Day Edit
By Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen - Posted Mar 9, 2005

Same-day edit productions make for unexpected treats at wedding receptions and can add to your bottom line. Here, three SDE pioneers talk about how it's done.

There's a common complaint among writers, journalists especially, that once we publish something, we rarely get feedback. It's not that we're so egotistical or insecure that we need a pat on the back for every word we write (though that certainly comes into play); it's that most of the time we have no tangible proof that anyone's even read the words we worked so hard to craft into a story. Even negative feedback is feedback; at least we know someone's taken a look.

Videographers at least know that somebody's going to see the fruits of their labors, even if the client is the only sure bet. But sometimes you have to wonder if even the subjects of the video witness what you've captured. Did the bride's father see how beautifully you captured that kiss as he gave his daughter away? Does the best man know that his attempts at breakdancing during the photo shoot have been captured for posterity? Does the groom know that his fiancee's eyes welled up when he surprised her with that song during the ceremony?

You certainly hope so, and the odds are on your side. But let's face it, videographers and writers share a common bond: we create what we create because we want to share it with people and hope they get out of it at least a little of what we put into it. Nonetheless, we're rarely around to see it when they do.

Enter the same-day edit. Chances are, even if you haven't attempted one, you've been tempted by the tantalizing possibility of taking what you've shot, giving it a quick, clean edit, and displaying it to a crowd still caught up in the thrill of the moment, whether at a wedding or another event. You'll get a round of applause at the end of the night, and—more importantly—your clients will get to relive a once-in-a-lifetime moment with the very people they shared it with in the first place.

Of course, the benefits of the same-day edit go beyond the emotional. Adding the service to your repertoire is another way to set yourself apart from the crowd and—lest we wax too idealistic—bring in additional revenue and clients. It's also a good way to silence the NLE naysayers who say wedding videography was better in the pre-editing days when you popped out the tape at the end of the day and handed it over, however rough and raw the footage. With an SDE, you get the instant gratification, but with the editing touches we've come to expect—and a chance to do a more lavish edit later on.

"I've never gotten as many ‘How did you do thats?' and ‘Could I have your cards?' as when I do a same-day edit," says Dave Williams of DVideography in Philadelphia. Here's a look at the opportunities and challenges presented by the same-day edit, as well as some practical advice from experienced videographers on how to get the job done. Read More. . .

Dave...
Damian and I enjoyed the video very much. Thank you so much for the little details that were addressed during the video. i.e. the prayer for Damian's dad. I also would like to thank you for all the little bits of footage of my niece, even though she was just there in the beginning of the day. i.e the limo ride, the lighting of the candle and the spins at the hotel. Seeing the video each time makes me remember what a extremely special day November 25 was. Thank you so much to you and your crew for all of your hard work. People are still talking about our same day edit and how wonderful it was. This video is something that Damian and I will watch for many years to come. It has been a pleasure working with you.
Thank you again!
Sincerely
Krista and Damian
