Tonight's major sponsors included the Philadelphia Chapter of the National Association of Catering Executives (NACE), the Philadelphia Chapter of the International Special Event Society (ISES), the Philadelphia Chapter of Meeting Professionals International (MPI), the Philadelphia Public Relations Association (PPRA), the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI), and many others.

The rain and snow did not stop this year's crowd who were treated to the food of Stephen Starr at his name-brand restaurant-themed stations. I could have eaten the Edamame Raviolis at the Buddakan station all night.

I was proud to be involved in a themed bar and dance floor called The Bar Wash. Chiseled male models with painted-on t-shits and sexy women in car wash-themed costumes served adult beverages from concealed tubes and ghostbuster-style canisters. The entire dance floor was framed in truss, 25 feet wide, 40 feet long, and 20 feet high. Three 50 inch plasma screens dotted the upper support truss and both sides of the dance floor walls were wrapped in semi-transparent white netting that we used to project Blu-ray HD imagery of the inner workings of a real car wash.

Behind the Scenes: Brian Toner of Eventions Productions joined me on the shoot. We explained to the car wash manager last week what we wanted to shoot and he got such a kick out of the idea, he actually made customers wait while we filmed. The Bar Wash was a collaborative effort of Eventions Productions, Sandy O Studio, Studio Signs, and DVideography

The 10 REAL Questions You Should Ask Your Videographer.

Sunday, December 14, 2008

Sometimes our clients come in with a list of questions like "Do you shoot in digital?" or "What type of equipment do you use?" We realize that these questions might come from a wedding planning web site that has good intentions, but these questions really miss the mark, in our opinion. The more meaningful questions that determine if a videographer is right for a client in the long run are tougher to answer by many videographers.

I've shared my thoughts on this with other professional wedding videographers around the country whom I respect. We agree that the pitfalls that some clients fall into can be avoided if the right questions are asked.

Today, some of them have taken this idea and started to run with it. We hope that all of us can make a dent and help educate clients so that they don't fall prey to the well-meaning hobbyist who is more interested in having fun and making a quick buck than they are delivering you a high quality video that you will enjoy for years to come.

The 10 REAL Questions You Should Ask Your Videographer

1. How will my movie sound?
2. How do you handle lighting?
3. How do you vary your shots?
4. How do you plan to tell the story of my day?
5. How long will it take to get my finished movie?
6. Are you 'preferred' by the other companies I've hired?
7. May I see other clients' movies and read what they had to say about you?
8. How do you get your shots without being 'in the way'?
9. Why are your services more expensive/less expensive than other companies?
10. What do you do to make sure our movie is unique to our personalities?

Editor Spotlight: James Rolfe

Monday, July 28, 2008

The day James came to work for me, I thought, "What a nice, mild-mannered boy. He probably doesn't drink, doesn't curse. Simply charming." World . . . meet James:

James Rolfe is an independent filmmaker whose work usually shows a resistance to the common trends of cinema production, therefore dubbing his trademark name "CineMassacre". Most people on the internet know him as the creator and actor of "The Angry Video Game Nerd", the foul mouthed tempered geek who shows a lot of contrast between his regular personality, his other films, and his work as a wedding video editor for DVideography.

YOU WERE MADE FOR THE MOVIES!

YOU WERE MADE FOR THE MOVIES!
by Sarah DiCicco

The most memorable day of any girl’s life has now become positively unforgettable. For the first time ever, wedding photographer Sarah DiCicco (www.sarahdicicco.com) has made it possible for newlyweds, along with their family and friends, to relive the love, laughter and emotion of their wedding day in the grandest of fashion offering an exclusive photo presentation of their special day on the movie theater big screen.

With the help of Dvideography (www.dvideography.com), DiCicco compiles the wedding day photos, while DVideography does its magic by conducting interviews with the bride and groom and family and friends to seamlessly accompany the images allowing clients to relive the wedding day as if it were happening all over again. The bride and groom take home their wedding photographs after the movie premiere allowing them to experience their wedding day again and again and to pass on their special moments to generations to come. The photo film premiere is exclusively available to DiCicco clients.

Often, wedding photographers present your proofs in a small thumbnail proof book, on CD or with watermarks over your images which are seldom retouched. With Sarah DiCicco, your wedding experience is vastly different with proofs that are final images consisting of up-to 900 to 1200 4 x 6 custom retouched prints displayed in three leather albums. After all of the planning and time that you put into your wedding, the images are what you have to remember your special day.

The photo film premiere is an extraordinary experience for any couple, but it’s an ideal answer for couples whose friends and family weren’t able to attend their destination wedding. The premiere will allow them to experience the couple’s wedding day as if they were guests at the actual wedding.

“I am thrilled to be the first wedding photographer to offer this unprecedented new way to see your wedding day photos,” said wedding photographer, Sarah DiCicco. “This is so much more than simply pictures put to music. This is truly a production worthy of the big screen.”

Erin Elizabeth Conroy of Newtown, PA and Thomas John Welling Jr. of Bronxville, N.Y recently experienced this star treatment. They were married February 2, 2008 at St. Vincent Ferrer in New York City, followed by a reception at Manhattan’s Capitale. On June 1st, the couple were greeted by their names displayed on the marquee at the Anthony Wayne Cinema and poster images of the couple inside the theater lobby. Friends and family were on hand to feel all the emotion of the newlywed’s wedding day all over again.

Dave & Sheryl,

I can't even begin to say how over the top the movie premier was!!! The reason I tell everyone that you are the best because it is true! Your high level of quality and unwavering ability to create a true piece of art is priceless. Thank you for not just taking the time to work with me on this, but also your friendship and your ability to take it a step further! Simply Amazing!

With all of our love, Sarah & Tony

Table Art Wins ISES Best Table Design and Best Event Decor

Saturday, July 12, 2008

by K. Patty
ISES
International Special Events Society

Dozens of local florists and event planners worked tirelessly all year to be able to enter their best designs in this prestigious competition. The awards ceremony was held at the Society Hill Sheraton on June 25th. TableArt attended knowing a few of our events were nominated in the categories of "Best Table Design" and "Best Event Decor". We brought home an award for our Flower Power party for "Best Table Top", and our Floating Candles party, designed in coordination with Brian Toner from Eventions Productions, and Dave Williams from DVideography won an award for "Best Event Decor".

Flower Power [WATCH VIDEO]
Ice crystals, crystal chandeliers, and flowers were the focal point of this awesome party at the Naval Yard in Philadelphia. Chocolate brown velvet linens, glass vases filled with mango calla lillies, cherry brandy roses, mokara orchids, glass and crystal table top chandeliers won "Best Tabletop Design"! The marriage of traditional velvet and flowers with the modern white water glass and white glass charger was a WOW!

Floating Candles [WATCH VIDEO]
Floating candles and video wallpaper were the focal point of this amazing party at the Crane Art Center in Philadelphia. Kathy Patty of TableArt, Brian Toner of Eventions, and Dave Williams of DVideography worked together to produce this event which won "Best Event Decor" of Philadelphia. Hundreds of candles floated above the guests' tables, video imagery brought the walls alive, and the tables were covered in grass wallpaper and were centered with Lucite ponds filled with riverrocks, orchid blooms, and floating candles. It was spectacular!

The Sub-$200 HD DVD Player Arrives

Monday, October 29, 2007

By Ken Fisher - Published: October 27, 2007

Via ars technica:

"Earlier this year the HD DVD camp expressed optimism that this holiday season would prove big for HD DVD, particularly because aggressive pricing was expected to deliver a solid HD DVD player into the sweet sub-$200 spot. It's widely believed that consumer adoption hinges on the players themselves becoming more affordable, which is why folks were getting excited about reports this past week indicating that Wal-Mart would be rolling out a $198 Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player next weekend."
